welcome to loosely buttoned
hi, i’m lis and i’m the writer of this blog. loosely buttoned has been sitting in my brain for a while now, kind of like one of those ideas you keep pushing off until it finally gets too loud to ignore. i’ve always loved writing and documenting things, but i was also the kind of person who’d just keep it locked away in my notes app, or scribbled in a journal no one would ever read, because i thought it wasn’t polished enough or important enough to share. but then i realized, that’s literally the point. the unpolished stuff, the messy middle, the not-quite-finished thoughts… that’s where the good stuff actually is.
part of what nudged me toward actually doing this was being surrounded by people who inspire me without even knowing it. my instagram moots (also hey willianny if you’re reading this, highkey thank you ) are always out there pushing their art, sharing their work, letting their creativity live outside of drafts, and i realized… why not me too? they didn’t tell me directly “start a blog,” but just watching them exist in their own creative lanes made me want to stop hiding and start sharing. it’s funny how sometimes you don’t need a pep talk, you just need to see someone else do the thing unapologetically, and suddenly you feel like maybe you could do it too.
and then there’s the name: loosely buttoned. it came from something as simple (and kind of stupid) as my work uniforms never fitting right. no matter what i did, the buttons were always a little off, a little crooked, but somehow i still looked good. it didn’t matter that it wasn’t perfect. in fact, the imperfection made it cooler, like the vibe was intentional even when it wasn’t. and i realized, that’s exactly how life feels in your 20s. not buttoned up all the way, not fitting into place neatly, but still working, still serving cunt (because life itself kind of always serves cunt, whether we’re ready for it or not). so the name stuck, and now it’s this little philosophy i’m carrying with me: being undone doesn’t mean being broken, and you don’t need to line everything up to still look and feel like yourself.
loosely buttoned isn’t meant to be some perfect archive of my life. it’s supposed to feel like a modern-day tumblr where i can dump photos and videos, scribble out diary entries, throw in random playlists, post fashion experiments, and spill whatever thought happens to be rattling around in my head. i want it to feel like opening up a scrapbook where nothing matches but somehow it all belongs. i want it to be alive, messy, and a little chaotic, because that’s what being in your 20s feels like.
and it’s not just about me. yes, i’m the one writing, but my life is completely tied up in the people around me. my friends, my roommates, my boyfriend they are in everything i do. they show up in the photos, in the side comments, in the little stories that only make sense if you were there. loosely buttoned is theirs too, because without them, there wouldn’t be anything to document in the first place. i want this blog to feel like a love letter to them as much as it is a diary for me. ( ily guys please never die or go bald )
i also made this blog because i want something to look back on when i’m older. not a highlight reel where everything looks put together, but the real stuff. the blurry pictures from nights i won’t even fully remember, the breakdowns that felt like the end of the world but taught me something anyway, the small victories that didn’t seem like much but mattered in the moment. i want to capture the version of me that’s still figuring it all out, still making mistakes, still changing every day. i think there’s something beautiful about having a record of this stage of life, not because it’s perfect, but because it’s real.
so what’s going to live here? honestly, everything. i’ll write about music because it’s the backdrop to literally everything i do. i’ll ramble about albums, cry about lyrics, and scream about local shows/ bands that are my personal celebrites ( walking blue if ur reading this ily ) . i’ll post fashion dumps, even when they’re just thrifted chaos that makes sense only to me. i’ll spill my sad thoughts that creep up on random afternoons, the kind i usually shove down but now want to let breathe. i’ll tell stories about my friends, because they’re the reason i laugh and the reason i love as loudly as i do. i’ll overshare about family, grief, love, heartbreak, joy, and everything in between. i’ll drop photos and videos that don’t look curated, but together paint the picture of what life feels like right now.
this blog is an outlet for anything and everywhere. it’s my attempt at creating a space that feels like life actually feels undone but beautiful, chaotic but meaningful, random but worth keeping. it’s a reminder that you don’t have to have it all figured out to start, you don’t have to be perfect to be worth remembering, and you don’t need every button in place to still be serving.
so this is my little corner of the internet. it’s messy, it’s honest, it’s a little too long sometimes, but that’s what makes it mine. expect chaos. expect honesty. expect to scroll through and feel like you’re reading a diary someone accidentally left open on the kitchen table. expect parentheses that go on forever (because i can’t stop adding side comments). expect music opinions no one asked for, fashion experiments no one gets but me, and a whole lot of blurry photos of the people who make this life worth writing about.
it’s not perfect, but it’s loosely buttoned. and that’s enough.
xoxo,
lisita
