who am i?
hi, i’m lis (short for giseliz, which looks elegant written out but in reality just gets mispronounced anytime i order a matcha ). welcome to loosely buttoned: my messy little corner of the internet where i spill all the undone, funny, sometimes heartbreaking, sometimes weird parts of being in my 20s.
i’m 22, currently surviving (barely) as a junior at the university of central florida studying entertainment management with a concentration in music business because… why not be chronically online and chronically broke. i grew up as a military kid, which means i’ve been “from everywhere” and “from nowhere” at the same time. technically florida gets the “born here” badge, but my puerto rican roots and you get a very chaotic but very passionate mix that comes out in the way i talk (fast), the way i love (loud), and the way i write (rambling, obviously).
my cats, juni and matcha, basically run my life. they are my sons and my unpaid emotional support animals. they’ll show up here often ( more than me probs ) because honestly, they’re part of every story whether i want them to be or not.
outside of school, i’m always running between a handful of side quests. i work at epic universe in attractions, i shoot concerts as a photographer, and i co-run a music media outlet with my friends ari and ang. somewhere in the middle of all that, i realized how much i love writing, not just about music but about love, grief, friendships, and all the random little things that make life what it is. loosely buttoned is where i get to throw all of it together, no filter, no polish, just the good messy stuff.
the truth is, i’m a collection of the people i love. my roommates, my friends, my boyfriend, they’re basically my world and they inspire me every single day. when i created loosely buttoned, i knew it couldn’t just be mine. it’s theirs too. it’s a scrapbook of everyone i love, because the best parts of me come from the people who’ve shaped me.
family is a tender subject. i carry a lot of grief, but i also hold onto the love of my mom and siblings who are my anchor and identity. they’re woven into everything i do, even when i don’t write about them directly. without them, this blog and me wouldn’t be the same.
and then there’s music, which is basically the background noise of my life. i play guitar, bass, and sing depending on the vibe. i hoard vinyl, i haunt local shows, i cry over lyrics, and i live for the moments when music makes everything click. add in my love for photography, my obsession with halloween, my forever theme park kid energy, and this growing passion for writing, and you’ve got me. not neatly tied together, but loosely buttoned.
so yeah, that’s what this space is. it’s me trying to navigate my 20s while half my buttons are undone. it’s about figuring things out, making mistakes, having weird adventures, grieving, laughing, loving, and writing it all down so i don’t forget. it’s not perfect, but it fits together anyway. loosely, of course.
xoxo,
lisita
